ABC American School is located in Fengyuan on the outskirts of Taichung City with a great mountain view.　 It's a brand-new school (we relocated after the 921 earthquake) with modern facilities, well-designed programs and a cooperative team environment. Our basic requirements are that you are native English speaker, have an outgoing personality and interact well with children and/or adults. It is also important that you have a basic respect for the laws and culture here in Taiwan and adapt well to new experiences and lifestyles.　

You will be teaching children, teenagers and adults at a private language school. Of course, kids like teachers who are active, outgoing and energetic. Adults like patient teachers with a sense of humor and an understanding of the difficulties of language acquisition in a foreign environment. Schools like teachers that can lead kids in games and activities, keep students amused and interested, and work well with other teachers and the school. You can make English teaching your career or think of it as a chance to experience a unique and fascinating culture.

Teaching Experience and Qualifications

The basic requirement for legal employment in Taiwan is a University degree. Without a degree, we will not be able to apply for a work visa for you. We would like our teachers to have related work experience, TESL certification and make a minimum 1 year teaching commitment. If you don't have experience but have a degree, one year available and the will to learn, please contact us.

Salary: NT$44,000 - $85,000 per month (see below).

Salary Details

We pay NT$550 per hour for a minimum of 20 hours per week. If you only work 20 hours or less then your monthly salary will be 20 x 4.2 weeks = 84hrs x $550 = $46200 per month. This is about US1366.00 or CAN$1761.00 minimum (see International Currency Converter for up to date exchange rates). Most people work 25 to 30 hours per week.

Living Expenses:

1. Housing: We find an apartment for you within walking distance to school. (app.NT$6000/mth up, depending on size)
2. Transportation: You may need a bike or scooter for your own convenience.　
3. Health Insurance: Many teachers organize their own insurance. We can help apply for National Health Insurance for you. 　
4. Income Tax will be deducted from your monthly salary at first but some will be returned by the end of the year. See Tax Information
